With Massimiliano Allegri's side in front thanks to Luka Modric's second half strike, Nkunku replaced Santiago Gimenez as Milan looked to hold out for a precious success.

They did just that, with Nkunku making an impact when he came on and ensuring that Milan ran out narrow winners. I Rossoneri are now on six points from their opening three Serie A matches and sit fifth in the table.

After making his debut, Nkunku took to Instagram to send a message to the Milan faithful. "First steps at San Siro. First Win [fist emojis facing left and right]. Forza Milan [red circle emoji and black circle emoji]."

Showing their support to Nkunku, Andrey Santos, Marc Cucurella, Dario Essugo, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, Romeo Lavia, Nicolas Jackson, Omari Kellyman, Malo Gusto, Moises Caicedo, Carney Chukwuemeka, Pedro Neto, Thiago Silva, Lesley Ugochukwu, Diego Moreira and Christian Pulisic liked the post.

Milan defender Matteo Gabbia praised Nkunku's work-rate and attitude before their win against Bologna, admitting he has been impressed with the former Chelsea man thus far.

Speaking at the Premio Gentleman Fair Play awards, Gabbia said: "The club did well to sign such a talented player, we'll enjoy seeing him on the field. I am happy and impressed with his attitude so far."

Following Nkunku's departure at the end of last month, Maresca hailed his professionalism even though his game time was at a premium during the 2024/25 season. "Christo is a fantastic professional, first of all. With us he was very professional, training very well," Maresca said, ahead of Chelsea's game against Fulham.

"The only problem with Christo has been that in his position there was another player like Cole, so it was difficult for him to get minutes. But they can expect fantastic things, first of all because he is very professional, and second because he is a very good player."
