New Delhi [India], April 29 (ANI): Amid Opposition demand for a special Parliament session in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Tuesday emphasised national unity, stating that the Opposition stands firmly with the Government in its response.
Backing a joint letter from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shrinate, while speaking to ANI, called for a special session of Parliament to send a strong, united message against terrorism and assure the public and bereaved families that India remains resolute in confronting anti-national forces.
"I feel that at a time when there has been such a massive attack on the country, the Government and Opposition are united. We are supporting the Government completely. We support whatever action the Government takes. The letter from our leadership is appropriate that a special session of the Parliament be called so that if there is any doubt, fear or pain in the mind of people in the world or any corner of this country or the bereaved families, a message goes among them that the entire Opposition as well as the Government are standing together against terrorism and we will be tough with our enemies," Shrinate said.
"So, it is essential to call a special session of the Parliament. There are elected representatives there; a message can go among people that the country is united against terrorism. We will fight against anti-national forces," the Congress leader added.
Earlier, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for action against those responsible.
The Congress leaders have expressed their willingness to work with the government in the fight against terrorism. The Congress demanded that the government take action against those responsible for the attack and ensure accountability for the security lapse.
In his earlier letter, Rahul Gandhi stated that the attack had outraged every Indian and emphasised the need for a unified response.
"The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has outraged every Indian. At this critical time, India must show that we will always stand together against terrorism," the letter reads.
The attack in Pahalgam on April 22 is one of the deadliest attacks in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike, in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, India has taken strong measures against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism. (ANI)
