Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, who is just 23 years old and next in line to become queen, may face problems continuing her studies at Harvard University because of a new order by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Elisabeth has just finished her first year of a two-year master’s program in Public Policy at Harvard. However, the Trump administration has taken away Harvard’s permission to enrol international students. The government is also telling current foreign students to either transfer to another school or leave the U.S. This decision might also affect other colleges soon.
A spokesperson for the Belgian Royal Palace, Lore Vandoorne, said they are still trying to understand how this decision will affect Princess Elisabeth. “We’re looking into it and waiting to see what happens,” said Xavier Baert, the Palace’s communications director.
Princess Elisabeth is studying Public Policy, which Harvard describes as a course that helps students get ready for a career in public service. Before coming to Harvard, she studied history and politics at Oxford University in the UK.
She is the oldest child of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium and is set to become queen in the future.
Harvard has said that the Trump administration’s decision is unfair and illegal, and seems to be an act of revenge. Thousands of international students could be affected.
