Mumbai: “Maharashtra is progressing rapidly within the nation’s overall development framework and contributing significantly to the vision of a developed India,” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said after hoisting the flag on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day on Friday.
The main state-level flag hoisting ceremony was held at Mantralaya, where Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unfurled the flag and addressed the gathering.
Focus on Atmanirbhar Bharat
“Maharashtra’s growth story will not stop here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Atmanirbhar Bharat is of utmost importance. We all must work together to make India self-reliant. In just a decade, India has moved from being the world’s 11th largest economy to the 4th largest economy,” he said.
Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Alok Aradhe, chief secretary Rajesh Kumar, Amruta Fadnavis, medical education minister Hasan Mushrif, Maharashtra Public Service Commission chairman Rajneesh Seth, chief electoral officer Dinesh Waghmare, DGP Rashmi Shukla, BMC chief Bhushan Gagrani and senior officials from various departments and the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard were also present.

“The Prime Minister has appealed for the adoption of indigenous products wherever possible, to strengthen Atma Nirbhar Bharat. Accordingly, the state needs to be made a hub for start-ups, technology and innovation,” the CM said.
FDI and Manufacturing Leadership
Highlighting Maharashtra’s role, he said that of all the foreign direct investment coming into India, 40% has been invested in Maharashtra. Maharashtra ranks first in manufacturing, exports-imports and start-ups.
Alongside excellent education systems, the state is focusing on developing human resources, with skill-based training enabling Maharashtra to contribute significantly to the country’s development in the future.
Green Power for Farmers
Once completed by December 2026, the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana will ensure 12 hours of daytime electricity for farmers, making Maharashtra the first state to provide 100% green power, Fadnavis said.
Major Irrigation Projects
Major irrigation projects are underway, including interlinking of rivers such as the Wainganga-Nalganga scheme, and diverting water flowing into the sea into the Godavari basin to drought-proof North Maharashtra and Marathwada. Similarly, projects will bring water into the Tapi basin, creating substantial water reserves for agriculture, industry and drinking purposes, the CM said.

“Gadchiroli is now almost free from Naxal and Maoist activities and is emerging as the country’s new steel hub. In the next ten years, it will have the nation’s largest steel production capacity,” he added.
