Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed heavy traffic snarls on Tuesday following an unexpected downpour that disrupted vehicular movement across several key areas. The abrupt change in weather led to gridlocked roads, leading Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, Yogesh Kadam, to ditch his official car and commute via the Mumbai Metro instead.
Minister Kadam’s decision was both practical and symbolic. By choosing public transport, he avoided the frustrating traffic delays and took the opportunity to experience the city’s metro system firsthand. During the journey, he interacted with fellow commuters, gathering feedback on the metro’s performance, cleanliness, punctuality and accessibility. Visuals of his Metro ride have surfaced on the internet.
Minister Kadam Hails Mumbai Metro
Speaking after the ride, Kadam praised the Mumbai Metro, calling it a modern, safe and reliable mode of transportation. “The Mumbai Metro system is well-planned, safe, punctual and equipped with modern amenities. Once all routes are operational, it will provide immense relief to the city's citizens,” he stated.
Minister Kadam Warns Citizens & Fishermen Of Changing Weather
Additionally, Kadam also drew attention to the changing weather conditions and issued a cautionary note to the citizens and coastal communities, earlier yesterday. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, he warned that the Arabian Sea is expected to turn rough due to a developing low-pressure system near the Maharashtra-Goa coastline.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), this low-pressure area could intensify and move northward by May 24. While no immediate danger to Maharashtra’s coastline has been forecast, rough sea conditions are expected between May 22 and 24, particularly near Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Palghar. The minister stressed the importance of preparedness and issued detailed safety guidelines for fishermen.
