Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh): A management graduate Anusheel Gupta earns up to Rs 50 lakh annually by contract farming carrots which he then stores in his cold storage. He meticulously crafted a plan to profit from cold storage after thorough research.
After obtaining detailed information from the Horticulture department, he got loan of Rs 4.35 crore from Horticulture Board for the construction of a cold storage. He also managed to get a subsidy of Rs 1.50 crore.
Under contract farming, he provides carrot seeds, medicines and technical and scientific advice to nearby farmers from time to time. Moreover, Gupta also sends experts to help the farmers, who listen to their problems and find solutions. Farmers also purchase carrot seeds from him and cultivate them.

Additionally, carrots are purchased from those farmers at the rate of Rs 8 kg and are stored in the cold storage. Around 100 farmers are associated with them in the work and they cultivate carrots in 500 to 600 bigha of area.
The produce is sold to cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad at a reasonable price. The cold storage can also store beetroot, potato, fenugreek, coriander, gram, dry garlic, red chilli etc and earn a good rent from it.
Gupta motivates other farmers to cultivate carrots as compared to other crops, carrot farming is three times more profitable.
