Pune's Scorching Heat To Ease As Rain Forecasted For Coming Days

Pune is experiencing one of its hottest summers with average daytime temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius. According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city has already recorded at least 14 days with temperatures reaching or exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the month of April.

However, IMD's latest prediction states that there will be a gradual decrease in day temperatures in Maharashtra from May 3. In Vidarbha, it is likely to rain (with light/thunder) from May 2 afternoon. The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase for the next few days from May 3. The people of Pune will also get some respite from the scorching heat as rain is expected to start from May 3 and will continue for a few more days. An orange alert has been issued for the districts of Chandrapur, Bhandara, Gadchiroli and Gondia.

IMD on Tuesday released its long-range forecast for the Southwest Monsoon season (June to September), indicating that most parts of Maharashtra are likely to experience above-normal rainfall, with high chances of excess rainfall in Marathwada and southern Maharashtra.

"Summer time rainfall is a normal phenomenon, as it occurs sporadically because of excessive heat in the daytime. Clouds are formed due to local conditions, so a particular region receives rainfall," said an IMD official. 

Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions against the heat, advising hydration, limited outdoor exposure during peak hours and secure shelter during severe weather events.
