Satna (Madhya Pradesh): A 55-year-old woman was axed to death in Belohanpurwa village under Barondha police station for offering resistance to a rape attempt on her by some people late Sunday night.
The incident took place when the woman was sleeping in a makeshift house in a field. The attackers also severely injured her son when he tried to save her.
The police arrested the murderer on Monday. According to reports, the woman and her son were sleeping outside the makeshift house in a field. A 22-year-old youth identified as Thokia, aka Satyam Kori, reached the place where the woman was sleeping. He tried to violate the woman. She suddenly woke up and said she would inform the police about it.
He then attacked the woman with an axe. When her son tried to save her, they hit him with the axe. Her son was sent to the district hospital. TI Abhinav Singh said Satyam Kori had been arrested.
Mock drill organised
Reports about a bomb found in a bag at the trisection near the ancient Mukharvind temple spread panic in the area on Tuesday. A police team together with a bomb disposal squad reached the spot.
