Rain and Hail Lash Eastern UP While Western Regions Reel Under Heatwave; IMD Issues Weather Alert

Several parts of Uttar Pradesh are currently experiencing extreme weather conditions, with a stark contrast between the eastern and western regions of the state. While the eastern districts witnessed rainfall and hailstorms, western UP continued to suffer under an intense heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert highlighting the contrasting weather patterns and advised residents to remain cautious.

Scorching Temperatures in Western Uttar Pradesh

Many districts in western UP are grappling with sweltering heat as temperatures soar above 40°C. The city of Orai recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.6°C, making it the hottest location in Uttar Pradesh on May 1. Other cities including Banda, Kanpur, Jhansi, and Lakhimpur Kheri also reported similarly high temperatures, causing significant discomfort for residents.

Blistering sunshine combined with dry, hot winds has created harsh conditions, leading to near-heatwave situations. The persistent high temperatures are making it increasingly difficult for people to venture outdoors. The IMD has warned that there will be no immediate respite from the scorching heat, and temperatures may rise further in the coming days.

Weather Shift in Eastern UP: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Hail

In contrast to the western region, eastern Uttar Pradesh experienced a sudden change in weather. According to the IMD, areas such as Gorakhpur, Ballia, Deoria, Kushinagar, Mau, and Ghazipur are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms. The department has also predicted strong winds and lightning activity in these regions.

This shift in weather has been attributed to a western disturbance currently impacting northern India. Meteorologists believe that this system will influence the region for the next 2–3 days, potentially bringing relief from the heat in eastern districts.

Advisory for Residents and Farmers

In light of the severe heat in western parts and the unstable weather in the east, authorities have issued advisories to help residents stay safe. The health department has urged people to avoid going out in the sun during peak hours and to stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.

For eastern UP, farmers have been specifically advised to take precautions to protect their crops from heavy rain, hail, and wind damage. The IMD has emphasized the importance of securing harvested produce and taking shelter during storms.
