Andre Onana has been warned by Ruben Amorim that his place as Manchester United's No.1 is under threat. Onana had a nightmare campaign at Old Trafford following his £47.2million arrival from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 and the Reds would have sold the Cameroon international if they had found a buyer to pay £35million.
United have been forced to put their hunt for a new shot-stopper on hold - and 29-year-old Onana will start United’s opening game against Arsenal after recovering from a hamstring injury. But boss Amorim said: “Andre is like the other players. They all have to win their place, so I’m not going to say if one player is No.1. He’s ready to go to the game, so let’s wait. Me as a coach and the players can do better than last year - and I have full confidence in that.”
It comes as the United boss was told only ONE player from his side would get into an Arsenal starting lineup.

Onana has conceded a staggering 148 goals in his two seasons in Manchester. In 72 Premier League appearances he has been beaten 102 times. Amorim had hoped United’s board would sanction a move for a new keeper this summer after dropping Onana during a dodgy spell in April that culminated in a horror show in the Europa League draw at Lyon.
But it was decided that other areas of Amorim’s team needed improving first - and the club have lavished £210million on forwards Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo.
Turkish international Altay Bayindir has also failed to impress, prompting United to hand 39-year-old veteran Tom Heaton a one-year contract extension.
