The central government has postponed the 'Civil Defense Exercise' proposed today in the border states and union territories adjoining Pakistan. This exercise was to be held in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir under 'Operation Shield'. The governments of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir said that this mock drill has been postponed due to administrative reasons. It was also clarified that the next date of the exercise will be announced later. The mock drill has also been postponed in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Significant flaws in civil defense preparations
It is worth noting that after these exercises, the Directorate of Civil Defense under the Union Home Ministry found significant flaws in civil defense preparations in sensitive areas of the country. On May 9, the ministry also issued instructions to the states to take necessary steps to remove these flaws.

The first information on the mock drill came from Rajasthan on Wednesday. Barmer District Collector Tina Dabi said that as per the orders of the Central Government, mock drills will be organized in the districts bordering Pakistan on Thursday, May 29.
After Operation Sindoor, a panicked Pakistan targeted Indian civilian and military bases. India targeted nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on the night of May 6-7. Panicked by this, Pakistan crossed the limit and tried drone and missile attacks on the Western Front for the next four days. Pakistan targeted populated areas, schools, and religious places. However, the armed forces of India foiled all its nefarious plans.
What happens in a mock drill?
To ensure the safety of important establishments, arrangements are made to hide their identity during the exercise. This is done so that enemy aircraft cannot target important factories and establishments from a distance. In any war, the enemy army first targets such establishments so that the economy can be broken. Apart from this, in case of an attack, plans are made for the safe evacuation of common people and they are rehearsed repeatedly.
What will people have to do during the mock drill?
During the mock drill, common citizens will have to follow the instructions of the administration. During this, when the siren sounds, one has to prepare to go to the safe places suggested by the administration. In case of a blackout, staying at home and switching off the lights of the houses is included.
What is included in the mock drill?
Attack siren - During the mock drill, a siren will sound to warn of an air attack. This means that there is going to be an attack by a rocket or missile somewhere nearby and all citizens should immediately go to the safe place identified by the government.
Training to citizens- During this time, training will be conducted at many places for common citizens and school students, in which they will be taught what to do in case of an attack and how to help the people around them. During this, saving people from panic and giving first aid is also included.
Blackout- In this, training will be given for the situation after a sudden power cut in the country. At the same time, during the air attack, much electrical equipments will be turned off, which will be of great help in avoiding enemy air attack.
Hiding and getting out of the risky area- During this, everyone will be trained to hide, hide important items and places. So that all these are not easily visible during the enemy's satellite or aerial surveillance. At the same time, training will also be given to get out of the most risky areas and to evacuate people.
When was the last mock drill conducted?
The last mock drill was conducted at the beginning of this month i.e. on 7 May. This exercise was conducted across the country amid the tense atmosphere of India-Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. This happened 54 years ago in 1971. Then the war for the liberation of Bangladesh turned into a full-fledged war between India and Pakistan, which was fought on both the eastern and western borders of the country. At that time, such an exercise was done to ensure minimum loss of life and property of civilians.
