It has turned cold outside over the last few weeks, and it can be easy for laundry to begin piling up now that we cannot hang it outside. Clothes can take days to dry properly indoors which can be frustrating, but lots of people can be reluctant to switch on a tumble dryer as it can greatly increase energy bills.
However, Fiona, a cleaning expert and founder of Dolly Dowsie, has revealed there is a really simple way to dry clothes quickly, and all you need is a towel. She said: "For a quick fix, try this popular trick: lay a dry, absorbent towel flat and place your wet clothing on top. Roll the towel up tightly with the clothing inside and give it a firm squeeze. This process helps to soak up the extra moisture in your garments, helping you to dry laundry quickly."
Towels will act like a sponge to absorb any excess moisture from clothes, which will significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to dry them. This simple method can help your laundry dry the same day you wash it, which is perfect for keeping up with your laundry or getting your favourite outfit ready in time for an evening out.
How to dry clothes using only a towelTo begin, simply place a towel on a flat surface like a table or on the floor, then place your wet garment on top of the towel.
Roll the towel up tight with the clothing item inside, and press on it gently to squeeze out the excess water. It can help to kneel on it if you are able to.
Then, you just need to hang your clothes up to dry. For light clothing like t-shirts, it should take between an hour to four hours, but for heavier garments like jeans it can take between four hours to eight hours.

One of the most effective ways to speed up clothes drying is hang them in a well-ventilated room that has a window or door open.
Airflow helps moisture evaporate from the clothes quickly and stop humidity build up, which can cause laundry to smell musty.
It will also help to have a dehumidifier nearby, but if you are worried about electricity costs then certain houseplants are also known to naturally absorb humidity from the air.
When doing laundry make sure to separate lightweight clothes from bulkier ones like towels as the heavy fabric can retain more moisture and make everything take longer to dry.
Adding a extra spin cycle after washing clothes will also help wring out excess moisture and reduce their drying time, so you do not have to worry about keeping up with laundry in autumn.
