NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) over its response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the life of 26 people, including Shubham Dwivedi , a Kanpur resident.
Speaking at a public gathering, Adityanath condemned the SP leadership for its lack of compassion, highlighting that one of its leaders refused to visit the bereaved family of Shubham Dwivedi. The reason given, he said, was that Dwivedi was not affiliated with the party.
"After the Pahalgam terror attack , it has become difficult for us to figure out whether it is really the Samajwadi Party leaders giving out such statements, or is it a spokesperson of Pakistan," Adityanath remarked.
He added, "When a journalist asked Samajwadi Party leaders why they didn't visit Shubham Dwivedi's house, he said the deceased wasn't a member of their party. This was such a shameful statement."
The chief minister also took aim at another SP leader who reportedly said, "Hindu has killed Hindu." Criticising the comment, Adityanath said, "By saying this, the SP leader has given a clean chit to Pakistan."
He warned that unless divisive and appeasement-driven politics are reined in, such statements will continue. "Whenever there will be divisive politics, the SP and Congress leaders will cross all limits of appeasement, just like they are doing now," he said.
Calling for national unity in the face of terrorism, Adityanath urged political leaders to rise above party lines. "The whole nation should unanimously condemn this incident, and under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, we should resolve to fight against and put an end to terror... There should be a limit where we rise above our political differences and think about the country and our people," he said.
