NEW DELHI: Davinder Saini , father of 21-year-old Vanshika Saini who was found dead in Canada under unclear circumstances, has requested the Indian government to coordinate with Canadian authorities for a proper investigation and to facilitate the return of his daughter 's body to India.
He expressed concern about delays in the process and asked for official intervention.
“My daughter Vanshika went to Ottawa in 2023. She wanted to win big in life. The last I talked to her was on 25 April when she was on her way to work. On the morning of 26 April, I received a message that she has gone missing," Davinder Saini said.
"She was preparing for her IELTS exam scheduled for 26 April. I want the Indian government to talk to the Canadian authorities and speed up the process of bringing her body back. I also demand a proper investigation to be carried out,” he further added.
Vanshika, daughter of AAP MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa’s aide Davinder Saini, had been studying in Ottawa for the past two and a half years. She had moved to Canada after completing Class XII in India to pursue a two-year diploma course. She had recently finished her final exams on April 18 and had started working part-time.
On April 22, she left for work but did not return. Her phone remained unreachable, and friends and family could not get in touch with her. She was also scheduled to appear for an IELTS exam on April 25. When friends visited her residence after the exam and found no trace of her, they contacted local authorities and reached out to the Indian community in Canada to begin search efforts.
Her body was later found on a beach near Ottawa. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and an investigation is underway. The family has alleged foul play and believes she was murdered. They are calling for a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The incident has drawn attention in Derabassi, where the family lives, with many demanding answers and justice in the case.
