KOTA: The bodies of a 28-year-old woman and her 14-month-old daughter were recovered from a water-filled mine in Garda village under the Namana police station area in Rajasthan’s Bundi district late Wednesday evening.
The two had been missing since April 24 after reportedly leaving home following a minor domestic dispute with the woman's husband.
The deceased woman has been identified as Venita (28), wife of Kailash, and her daughter as Riya (14 months). The family, originally from Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh, had been working as mine labourers in the Garda area of Bundi district.
According to reports, Venita left home with her daughter on April 24 following a minor scuffle with her husband. Kailash filed a missing person report at Namana police station the same day when she did not return.
According to Dharmaram Jat, SHO of Namana police station, local residents spotted two bodies floating in the mine around 7 pm on Wednesday and immediately alerted the police. The bodies—estimated to be 5–6 days old—were subsequently retrieved and sent to the mortuary at Bundi district hospital.
SHO Jat said that prima facie, it appears the woman may have jumped into the mine with her daughter on the same day they left home. Post-mortem examinations are underway, and further action will be taken based on the reports and statements from family members.
