Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt has expressed confidence that his 100-metre world record of 9.58 seconds, set at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, will remain unbroken for years to come. The sprint legend also holds world records in the 200m and 4x100m events.
"I think that record will be broken, but it won't be for a while. I think it's going to stay here for a while. It's an incredible 100-metre time, and I don't think anyone's going to break it anytime soon," Bolt told news agency ANI regarding his 100m record.
The Jamaican sprinter also holds the world record in the 200m, completing the race in 19.19 seconds at the same 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin.
"I think the 200 is definitely more vulnerable than the 100. There's an opportunity there. But here again, that's a very, very difficult time as well," he said about his 200m record.
Bolt's journey to global stardom began at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he clinched gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m events, all with world record times. He later achieved the remarkable 'Triple-Triple' at the 2016 Rio Olympics, securing three gold medals at three consecutive Olympic Games.
His first world record came in the 100m in 2008, posting 9.72 seconds in New York. He improved this to 9.69 seconds at the Beijing Olympics and finally to 9.58 seconds at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Bolt holds the three fastest times ever recorded in the 100m: 9.58, 9.64, and 9.69 seconds.
